Female rulers are a rare phenomenon--but thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, women reigned supreme. This bust of Egyptian Queen Nefertiti was made before she commanded that no more images be made of her as a womanbut only as a ruler. They ruled without the god Ra and did not act by divine decree right down to my Majaesty's time. Long before she came to the throne, however, these other Egyptian women had already held the positions of regent, God's Wife of Amun, and even reigning monarch a number of times.
